Recertification
Certification of Clinical Research Professionals by SOCRA is based on a continuing process of professional experience and education. This program is dedicated to providing recognition and validation of the professional growth of the individual “CCRP®” to the healthcare community. The goal is to assure the safety of human research participants and improve the health of people around the world.
Applying for Recertification
Recertification is required every three years. A recertification reminder email is sent two months before your certification expiration date. To be considered for recertification, the candidate must:
1) Complete 45 hours of Continuing Education (CE) applicable to their work in clinical research during their certification period. See the links below for detailed CE requirements.
2) Complete a self-administered Continuing Competence Learning Module. This module will be completed online at your own pace. The exercise is intended to assure that CCRPs are maintaining their knowledge and understanding related to changes affecting clinical research.
3) Submit their recertification application and fee (currently $350 USD for three years) to the SOCRA administrative office prior to their certification expiration date. Fees are non-refundable.
Please note that processing times typically range from 10–14 business days. If CCRP certification is a requirement of your role, we recommend submitting your recertification application at least three weeks before your certification expiration date to allow sufficient time for processing and review.
Reinstatement
If your CCRP has lapsed within the past calendar year, you may reinstate your CCRP certification. You may apply for reinstatement by completing the reinstatement application below and submitting a $50 processing fee. Once the application form is received, you will be sent the re-certification application and fee, and online education module, ‘Regulatory Updates for Clinical Research Professionals’, for you to complete.
You may contact certification@socra.org with any questions.
Recertification Audit
The final version of The ICH Harmonised Guideline, Guideline for Good Clinical Practice, E6(R3) was adopted on January 6, 2025. On January 27, 2025, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) announced an effective date of July 23, 2025 for E6 (R3).
The Current SOCRA Certification Examination content is based on the ICH Harmonised Guideline, Guideline for Good Clinical Practice, E6(R2). Beginning January 1, 2026 the exam content will reflect the ICH Harmonised Guideline, Guideline for Good Clinical Practice, E6(R3).
Application and Fee
In order to maintain active certification status, the CCRP® must apply for renewal of certification to the Certification Committee every three years.
As you know, SOCRA strives to promote individual recognition and continuing excellence in the ethical and operational conduct of clinical trials through the CCRP® certification program. We truly appreciate your accomplishment as a CCRP® and your continued maintenance of the CCRP® credential.
We have been able to maintain our fees for recertification for the CCRP® credential at the same levels for the past 15 years. However, due to current interpretations of applicable law, the Certification Committee has updated the requirements and subsequently adjusted the fee structure for CCRP recertification.
Under the revised system, certified clinical research professionals receive complimentary SOCRA membership for their term of certification. Certified clinical research professionals thereby still:
- have access to the SOCRA journal,
- have access to CITI’s GCP and Human Research Protections on-line modules (10 hours of no cost CE), and
- receive SOCRA CE certificates when attending SOCRA Chapter meetings (at no cost).
Please note that processing times typically range from 10–14 business days. If CCRP certification is a requirement of your role, we recommend submitting your recertification application at least three weeks before your certification expiration date to allow sufficient time for processing and review.
Application Fee
Payment in Full for a three-year recertification term
$350 for three years (includes complimentary SOCRA membership for all three years)
If your membership information has changed (company, title, address, etc.) please update it here.
